DCC Sound Decoders (On Board / Mobile)

Text Box: Sound is a new dimension that creates a whole new level in the reality of your models when it is created & installed well…
However, neither all sound decoders nor all sound files they contain are as good as they could be, so, as with other aspects of our DCC involvement, we have selected only “The Best of the Best” to be stocked at DCCconcepts.
We are pleased to offer ESU LokSound as the only truly high quality, fully programmable sound decoders available that can be installed in all scales from N to Gauge 1 in any shape or form, whether the prototype is Steam, Electric, Mechanically driven diesel, Diesel hydraulic, Diesel electric or any other possible combination of traction features.
All LokSound decoders have very high quality “onboard loco drive” with 4th generation Back EMF and all of the key features that you’d expect in a top decoder. They are almost bulletproof too - something that’s more than a little important in an expensive item!
Our LokSound library currently covers most US and North American locos and their derivatives and a large proportion of European locomotives ...plus Australian and a huge variety of UK derived locomotives too. We’d like to emphasise that our soundfiles are NOT always simply copied from the LokSound site - Many are totally original creations or significantly improved variations of existing files!
We can create special sounds for ANY specific locomotive on request. We can do this as we are one of the few really do understand model railway sound. This allows us to truly “custom programme” LokSound to your needs. We’re working hard to add more UK prototype locomotives to our list very soon.
Many of our sound files are unique to us and we have, over time, developed our own large library of sound files. If these, plus the extensive LokSound library don’t meet your needs, then we can and will create something special for you on request. We are pleased offer this service at no extra cost. Each LokSound is delivered complete with a personalized CD containing your own copy of the sound file, digital copies of the ESU LokSound Manual - plus a list of the sound functions included in your decoder.
Where a decoder for a specific US Steam or diesel prototype is wanted, then we are also pleased to offer both the Soundtraxx Tsunami or QSI Quantum Revolution sound decoders as top quality alternatives.
While Soundtraxx Tsunami are not re-programmable like LokSound, they DO currently offer a super high quality set of sounds for many steam and diesel variants, and as each decoder has several alternative choices in key areas such as whistle sounds plus a high quality Back EMF equipped motor drive, it is an excellent alternative.

16Mbit memory, 3.0 amp drive, 8 x 600mA Fn
Fitted with convenient screw terminals.

Text Box: All LokSound decoders can be programmed with any desired sound file and set-up to meet your specific requirements, so if you have a particular need, please just ask!.
16Mbit memory makes ever more complex sound files possible so we try to add a little more to every locomotive sound. We offer a low cost (post cost only) re-programming service for all of our LokSound decoder clients (For post only service, the decoder must still have original 8 pin plug OR be installed into a loco, or a surcharge will apply).
Reliability is as good as the performance, as all LokSound Sound Decoders have protection for motor drive and function outputs. LokSound has a one year warranty.

Text Box: US Prototype:
We are able to offer all original LokSound sound files plus a range of redesigned and customized files with what we feel are significant improvements in many areas. If you have a particular need or would like a US prototype file with particular changes to suit your loco or layout, we can help.
EU Prototype:
Many of the ESU LokSound V3.5 soundfiles are derivatives of the V2 and V3 files with significant shortcomings. We are progressively “tweaking” many of these sounds and improving them to meet our own standards.
As this also involves making use of the added memory available we are often able to make a “Better equivalent sound-file” for EU prototype with better features AND sound than LokSound originals!
Australian prototypes:
Every other Australian based seller of LokSound simply uses a US sound file when they load your sounds… We do not. We take the specification of the locomotive and review real video and audio footage of the Australian built locomotives, then combine the correct prime movers, horns and other sounds to make a sound file that is prototypically correct for the locomotive as built in Australia. We also like to know the period you are modelling so that the sounds reflect the motor as it was when you modelled the loco, as many things can change - Onboard equipment, dynamic braking, silencers, exhaust and breathing, turbo-charging, supercharging and in some cases, total re-powering!
A simple example of the way we do it better than most: We set up the CL, CL-F and CL-P quite differently, with the differing idle states of all 3 a typical example of minor differences with major sound results! We can manage a very convincing sound-file for most Australian steam too, with both output levels and sound quality in most cases being markedly better than any original LokSound original.
UK Prototypes:
We have a wide range of 2, 3 and 4 cylinder steam soundfiles that are universally regarded as the best there are for UK steam locomotives. When we install your sounds, we always get the general character of the locomotive right, perfectly synchronise the sound to wheel revolutions, use original whistles and often incorporate things no other “LokSound professional” can do, such as customized whistles such as the “crow” ...adding wheel-slip that really sounds right or even a station announcement to suit your modelling location. We also make sure our sound files sound right at all speeds - something other sound file creators, including ESU, rarely get right!
Our prototypes include most UK steam types and we really excel at LNER 3 cylinder Pacifics, MR, LNWR and Stanier loco’s of every type and a whole host of GWR and SR locomotives too!
We will shortly have a truly “in-service” G2 “Super D” sound-file, complete with the characteristic “wheezy asthmatic chuff” and reedy thin whistle of the LNWR Joy valve gear equipped original, NOT the very efficient sound of the fully restored and preserved G2 now in service!
Our UK Diesels and Electrics are also extremely well received - The range of UK diesel sounds is complex and in many cases very different to any other sound worldwide so this range take a very long time to get right ...however we can now do many classes and the list is growing rapidly.
Special sound projects for Unique locomotives from anywhere!
We are happy to create any sound project for any locomotive. If you have a recording we can hear, we can recreate THAT locomotive on your sound decoder for you.
In each case, we will discuss your needs by email or phone to reconfirm the details before commencing to be sure we get it right and we do ask patience on delivery timing as original creation takes a lot of time. With average original creative time exceeding 20 hours per sound file this service is offered to all modellers at a surprisingly low cost providing that we retain control of the originals, so don’t be put off at the thought of high prices for this service.
We now have locomotives sent to us every week from all over the world for sound installation ——————————————————————————————————————————

Tsunami Sound Decoders

Soundtraxx’s latest High Performance sound decoders!

A little more info on TSUNAMI from DCCconcepts

Soundtraxx  Tsunami                 Soundtraxx tsunami Micro

Text Box: The Tsunami sound system is SoundTraxx’s high-performance, onboard locomotive sound system.
Tsunami integrates a full-featured sound system, four Hyper-light lighting effects, a quality BEMF motor controller and a DCC decoder into a single, integrated package. Tsunami is fully compatible with the NMRA standards and Recommended Practices.
At Tsunami’s core is a true 32-bit fully polyphonic Digital Signal Processor, or DSP, capable of executing over 120 million instructions per second. Truly excellent sound quality is guaranteed.
Along with this new level of audio performance, SoundTraxx was able to give Tsunami 14 functions, over 22 individual sounds, and 4 special effects including the ability to alter the exhaust sound automatically in response to changes in the engine load.

Text Box: Supply Only:
We try to hold a reasonable range of Tsunami ex stock, however supply can be intermittent from time to time so we may have them on backorder when you enquire. Tsunami is not supplied with a speaker so you will need to pre-check which size will fit your locomotive.
The range of 8 ohm speakers is on the next page. This can also be accessed by clicking here.
Supply and custom fit:
We are happy to install your Tsunami here at DCCconcepts and we can also make other improvements to your locomotive such as lighting, smoke and custom weathering. (see here for installation pages).
For those serious about smoke, we can provide a dual smoke unit with fuel tank and pre-heater if you really want it to smoke like the prototype - our custom smoke generator isn’t a low cost option (each is individual and by specific quote only) but it puts out enough serious smoke to make a good destroyer smoke-screen if you push it hard!
If we fit your decoder, you will receive it with all options properly tuned for your locomotive, address set and in the case of steam locomotives, proper and accurate synchronization of chuffs will also be done.
We tend to use multiple speakers in most installations and for larger Steam locomotives it is not uncommon for us to install up to fur speakers, including some in the front of the loco so sound really sound like its coming from where it should!
We will also almost always make customised enclosures for the speakers we use to ensure sound quality is at its very best. Our prices are extremely reasonable and we install for modellers worldwide!
Nobody anywhere does better quality Tsunami sound installations than DCCconcepts!
