TRACK: LAYING & BALLASTING TIPS

A Different perspective on laying, painting, weathering and ballasting trackwork….

As with the scenery tips pages, we want to simply present a point of view on the creation of a realistic layout. To us, the planning for laying track starts before the baseboards are created and doesn’t end until the layout as a whole has been created and weathered….

Much of that is beyond your control if you’ve already reached the stage where your track is down, however read on anyway, because in this page are some tips that will make the tasks ahead easier, and others have the potential make the result much more realistic than it might have been!

Droppers: To be planned in advance and added to the rails BEFORE the track is laid. This is a nice place to start because it is often the one thing modellers fear—soldering Wire to rails!
